With over 400 units in the National Park Service (NPS), it can get overwhelming trying to understand how the park system was created, why it manages so many different types of federal property, and how they all differ (such as national monuments, national recreation areas, national battlefields, etc.). This presentation will bring clarity to the matter by giving a comprehensive history as to how the NPS was established and how it progressively developed over the past 150 years. The presentation will also include personal stories and travel advice from one man’s quest to visit all the US national parks (he has currently been to 43 of the 59).
